About Porch & Plan

Most home-project content answers the wrong question. It tells you what's trendy when what you need to know is what the project costs, what order to do it in, and whether you can do it yourself without regretting it. Porch & Plan exists for those three questions.

Where our numbers come from

Cost figures are planning estimates assembled from published price data: national cost surveys, big-box retail pricing, and the typical contractor-rate ranges those surveys report. We show ranges instead of fake-precise averages, we explain which decisions move a project between the low and high end, and we date every article. When a number is uncertain, we say so.

What we don't do

We don't run sponsored posts, we don't recommend products we're paid to mention, and we don't pretend a national average is a quote. Your region, your site, and your contractor's calendar all change real prices. Our guides end the same way for a reason: get itemized quotes before you commit money.

Who we are

Porch & Plan is built by the small team behind HammerCalc (free material calculators) and NetPayMap (paycheck calculators): engineers who think budgets deserve the same care as blueprints. Spot a cost range that doesn't match what you were quoted? Tell us. Corrections get fixed first.
